Joan was born about 1268.  Joan's father was Gilbert the Red de Clare and her mother was Alice de Lusignan of Angouleme.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard de Clare and Maude de Lacy; her maternal grandparents were Hugh XI Lusignan de la Marche and Yolande de Dreux. She had a sister named Isabella. She had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Gilbert, John, Eleanor (Alinore), Margaret and Elizabeth.  She died after 1322.


Joan's first family with Duncan MacDuff

‌Joan and Duncan were married in a religious ceremony in 1284.  They had a son named Duncan.


Joan's second family with Gervase Avenel

‌Joan and Gervase were married in a religious ceremony about 1302.
