Roger the Good was born in 1116 in Tunbridge Castle, Kent, England.  Roger the Good's father was Richard FitzGilbert de Clare and his mother was Alice de Gernons le Meschines of Chester.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert FitzRichard Mareschall de Clare and Adeliza de Clermont; his maternal grandparents were Ranulph III de Briquessart le Meschines and Lucy Taillebois. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Gilbert FitzRichard, Robert Fitz Richard, Rohese and Alice de Tonbridge. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Roger and Isabel.  He died at the age of 57 in 1173 in Oxon, Oxford, England.

They had five sons and two daughters, named James, Henry, John, Roger, Richard FitzRoger, Mabel and Aveline.
