John was born about 1265. John's father was Edward I Longshanks Plantagenet of England and his mother was Alice de Lusignan of Angouleme. His paternal grandparents were Henry III Plantagenet of England and Eleanor Berenger of Provence; his maternal grandparents were Hugh XI Lusignan de la Marche and Yolande de Dreux. He had six half-brothers and fourteen half-sisters, named John, Henry, Alfonso, Edward II Caernarvon of, Thomas Plantagenet of, Edmund Plantagenet of, Eleanor, Julian Katherine, Joan of Acre, Margaret, Berengaria, Elizabeth, Beatrice, Blanche, Mary, Alice, Isabella, Eleanor, Joan and Isabella.
