Gilbert the Younger was born in 1182 in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England.  Gilbert the Younger's father was Richard FitzRoger de Clare and his mother was Amicia FitzRobert of Gloucester.  His paternal grandparents were Roger the Good de Clare and Maud de St. Hilary du Harcourt; his maternal grandparents were Wiliam FitzRobert of Gloucester and Margaret de Paganel de Beaumont. He had a brother and two sisters, named Richard (Roger), Joan and Maud (Matilda).  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 48 on October 25th, 1230 in Penrose, Brittany, France.  He was buried in 1230 in Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucester, England.

‌Gilbert the Younger and Isabella were married in a religious ceremony on October 9th, 1217 in Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucester, England.  They had three sons and three daughters, named Richard, William, Gilbert, Amicia, Isabel and Agnes.
