Robert was born about 1052 in Pays d'Auge,  Normandy, France.  Robert's father was Hugh Corbeau. He had three brothers named Hugh, Roger and Renaud.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died after 1121 in Alcester, Warwickshire, England.

He had a biological son and two biological daughters, named Robert II, Sibylla and Alice.
