Maude was born about 1223 in Lincoln, England.  Maude's father was John de Lacy and her mother was Margaret de Quincy.  Her paternal grandparents were Roger Helle de Lacy and Maud (Matilda) de Clare; her maternal grandparents were Robert II the Younger de Quincy and Hawise de Keveliok of Lincoln. She had a brother and a sister, named Edmund and Alice.  She was the oldest of the three children.

‌Maude and Richard were married in a religious ceremony.  They had four sons and four daughters, named Gilbert the Red, Thomas, Bogo, Robert, Isabel, Margaret, Rohese (Agnes) and Eglentina.
