William the Protector was born about 1146 in Pembroke, Wales.  William the Protector's father was John FitzGilbert the Marshal and his mother is Sibilla d'Evereaux de Salisbury.  His paternal grandparents were Gilbert FitzRichard Mareschall de Clare and Adeliza de Clermont; his maternal grandparents were Walter FitzEdward d'Evereaux de Salisbury and Maud (Sibyl) de Chaworth. He had a sister named Margaret FitzGilbert. He had a half-brother named John.  He died on May 14th, 1219 in Caversham Manor, Oxford, England.  He was buried in Temple Church, London, England.


William the Protector's family with Isabel Fitz Richard Strongbow de Clare

‌William the Protector and Isabel Fitz Richard Strongbow were married in a religious ceremony in August 1189 in Tower of London, London, England.  They had five sons and five daughters, named William the Younger, Richard, Gilbert, Walter, Anselm, Isabella, Joane (Johanna), Maud, Eve and Sibyl.
