Berengaria Alfonsez was born in August 1181 in Segovia, Castile, Spain.  Berengaria Alfonsez's father was Alfonso VIII the Noble and Good of Castile and her mother was Eleanor Plantagenet.  Her paternal grandparents were Sancho III the Desired of Castile and Blanche of Navarre; her maternal grandparents were Henry II Curtmantle FitzEmpress of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Sancho of, Fernando of, Henry (Enrique) I of, Sancha of, Urraca of, Mafalda of, Blanca of, Leonor of and Constance of.  She was the second oldest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 65 on November 8th, 1246 in Las Huelgas, Burgos, Castile, Spain.
