Rodrigo Diaz El Cid Campeador was born in 1043 in Vivar, north of Burgos, Castile, northern Spain. Rodrigo Diaz El Cid Campeador's father was Diego Lainez de Vivar and his mother was Teresa Nunez de Amaya. His paternal grandparents were Lain Nunez and Daughter of Castile; his maternal grandparents are Nuno Alfonsez de Amaya and Gentrode de Castro. He was an only child. He died at the age of 56 on July 10th, 1099 in Valencia, Spain. He was buried in Monastery of San Pedro de Cardena near Burgos, Spain.General Notes

great landowning nobility on his mother's side, El Cid was born at Vivar
