John is my great great grandfather.  John was a baptist, and probably attended Moor Street Chapel, although he later married Elizabeth Kay at Dukes Alley Chapel.

9 Oct 1837, John, a spinner, and Ellen were living in Halliwell when they married at St Mary's, Deane.

After he married Ellen, he stayed at their family home at Crook Street (1838 when Benjamin born and 1843 when wife Ellen died), although his family house was at Blackburn Street.

In 1841, John (25) was living with Ellen (20) and son Joseph (1) at Blackburn Street, Little Bolton (not with parents), working as a Cotton Spinner.

20 Sep 1843, John was living at Coopers Square, Little Bolton (on Wedding certificate).  The Bolton Cronical  reported John Mather of Little Bolton marrying Miss Elizabeth Kay of Halliwell.

Between 1844 and 1854, John and Elizbeth had 6 more children, all registered at Little Bolton. Elizabeth Mather registered in 1841 is another family (Joshua Mather and Elizabeth Kay) also in Little Bolton.

In 1851, John was living at 58 Chorley St., Bolton (a labourer at the Iron Works, age 35) with new wife Elizabeth (32) and son Joseph (11), Hannah (6), Samuel (4), Margaret (2) and Sarah A (8mo)

Samuel Mather confirmed as father on marriage certificate.  Making a fair assumption that Isaac Mather (the only other Mather family living in Little Bolton in 1851) is a brother.  Isaacs father is also known to be Samuel.

In 1856, John was a witness to younger brother George's marriage to Mary Marsh. Both could sign their names.

In 1861, John and Elizabeth (45 and 43) are at 114 Chorley Street with their children Joseph (21), Hannah (16), Samuel (14), Margaret (12), Sarah (10), John (8) and Ruth (6).

In 1864, John of 114 Chorley Street died. Widowed (six children) 12 April 1737 (Bolton). They were still together in 1861 Lives with: In 1861, Charlotte & Margaret left home and were boarding in Tonge with Robery & Mary Allen, a painter. 1739 - 1820 John Crook 81 81 Which John Crook married Rachel?  John was a carpenter, so a likely the son of Mordici, also a carpenter, but the other John named his children Mordai.  Also, both Johns are Whitesmiths, so something's crossed!

John was 18 when he married Elizabeth at Leyland. For his first two marriages, he signed his name and his witness was William Crook.

John was 26 when he married Rachel.  He may have been marrid before to Martha, in which case he was a Weaver like his father before he became a carpenter.

John was at Tonge (Middleton Parish) when their oldest son James was born.  After Rachel died in 1791, John needed another wife to look after the children.  "Jn'o Crook of Middleton Parish & Alice Entwistle of This Parish" were married at Deane on 16 Oct 1792.

There was already a John and Alice Cook family in Bpolton, and thay had Jane in 1787, so the Ann born in 1792 in L.B. was probably also theirs.  Our John was from Tonge, Middleton. 1719 - 1769 John Crook 50 50 John, born 1719, was the illegitimate son of Jonathan Crook and Alice Lomax.  However, after his baptism, his parents married at St Peter, Bolton, and continued their family.

In 1851, Abraham (aged 34, recorded as Alexander) was a Widow and Porter, living at 57 (was 22) Nailer Row, Little Bolton.  With him are Eliza (13), Thomas (10), Charlotte (7), Ellen (4) and Margaret (2).

In 1861, Abraham (43, Carter, Born L.L.) and Betty (39, Born Westmorland) were at 116 Chorley Street, Little Bolton.  John and Elizabeth Mather were neighbours at 114 Chorley St.

In 1871, Abraham was 55, Carter, born D.L.) married, lodging in Edgar Street, East Bolton.  Wife Betsy Crook (49) was at 70 Chorley Street, Little Bolton with the Children.

In 1861, Abraham and Betty are at 116 Chorley Street.

In 1871, Betty was married, 47, housekeeper and at 70 Chorley Street (probably same house, but renumbered).  Abraham was away (a lodger in E Bolton).  She had all the children with her.

In 1881, Elizabeth (69) was still at 70 Chorley Street with her daughters Mary, Harriet and Hannah (25, 23 & 21).

In 1891, Elizabeth (69) was with her daughter Harriet (33). 1780 - 1868 William Crook 87 87 In 1841, William (a weaver) and Betty (both 60) were at Yew Tree (next to New House) in Darcey Lever.  They had James (22) and Hannah (20) with them.

In 1851, William and Betty (both 70) were living with their son James in Darcey Lever. 1780 - 1868 Betty Nelson 87 87 Betty Nelson was probably the daughter of John Nelson and Betty Kirkman 1813 Mary Crook 1818 James Crook James Married Ann.  Not Ann Horrobin in 1842 as that was James son of Peter.  Probably Ann Makin at Ainsworth Christ Church (where Happy Mather also married John Barrow in 1842)

In 1851, James and Ann (32 & 38) were living with James's parents William & Betty Crook at Yew Tree, Darcy Lever. They also had three children. 1821 Hannah Crook
On 6 Apr 1845, Hannah Crook of D.L., daughter of William Crook, weaver married Robert Tonge, Crofter of Great Lever. 1803 Alice Crook 1807 - 1847 Andrew Crook 40 40 Andrew was a Color Seargent in the 1st Battn 60th REGT. OF Royal Rifles.

On 4-Jan-1719, just before (his grandson John was born in 1719) a petition was raised for Samuel and his son Jonathan to be removed from Great Bolton and returned to the township of Little Bolton.

On the 30 March 1851, Hannah (20) is still with her parents.  She married Peter Greenhalgh 12 days later. 1826 - 1899 Peter Crook 73 73 Elizabeth In 1832, aoneher Andrew married Elizabeth Ann Anderson (b.1815) in PA, USA. They were still there in 1870. 1842 William Andrew Crook 1812 - 1850 Mary Ann Clegg 37 37 Mary Ann Clegg married Abraham in 1836.

Known as "Mary Ann" when married and Elizabeth baptised, and later known only as Ann Crook.

In 1841, Abraham and Mary (20 & 25) were at Yew Tree, Darcy Lever with Elizabeth (4) and Thomas (1). 1850 Thomas Wilson Thomas was from an earlier partner of Betty Wilson, born in Milnthorpe, Westmoreland.  Her other children were born in Little Bolton.

In 1851, Thomas Wilson (11 mo) with his unmarried mother Elizabeth (28) and grandmother Agnes (50, Widow) at Under How, Grasmere, Wstmorland.

Thomas Crook was born in Westmoreland, living at 116 Chorley Street, Little Bolton in 1861. Hannah Maria Crook married John Parker 1837 - 1915 Elizabeth Crook 78 78 Elizabeth was born in 1837 at Darcy Lever.
