Peter was born in 1835 in Bolton and his baptism took place there on February 22nd, 1835.1  Peter's father was Richard Clarkson and his mother was Mary Rainford. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Robert, Joseph, Susannah, Jane and Mary.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
