Susannah was born about 1824 in Melling.1  Susannah's father was Richard Clarkson and her mother was Mary Rainford. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Peter, Robert, Joseph, Jane and Mary.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
