Jane was born in 1827 in Bolton.1  Jane's father was Richard Clarkson and her mother was Mary Rainford. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Peter, Robert, Joseph, Susannah and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the eight children.
