Sarah's father was William Clarkson and her mother was Sarah Collings. Her paternal grandparents were Richard Clarkson and Mary Rainford; her maternal grandparents were William Collings and Maria Mather. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Peter, Richard, Thomas, Adam, Maria and Mary. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children. She died at the age of 50 on June 1st, 1912 in Blackburn.²
