Emmaline's father was Peter William Clarkson and her mother was Emmaline Elizabeth Ellen Smith. Her paternal grandparents were William Clarkson and Sarah Collings. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Walter, Wilkinson, Maggie and Minnie. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children. She died in 1895 in Blackburn.¹
