Brereton, Vicar, and Alethea his wife. There were two John Breretons of Nantwich of the same generation as Captain John…. John Brereton, mercer, who married Dorothy Brown on June 20, 1639 and had four children: Dorothy, born 15 March 1640; John born 3 September 1643, William, born 18 April 1647 and Margaret born 14 January 1649 … the other, John Brereton of Nantwich married Elizabeth Maisterson at Nantwich on November 28, 1640 and had a son John who was baptised August 19, 1644. There seems to be no record of (a) Captain John ever having a family. In a Will dated February 8, 1653/54 written by John of Nantwich, mercer, mention is made of his sons, John and William, the under age, an estate at Bartherton in the Parish of Wybunbury and tenements in Blacklow. Reverend John Brereton of Wybunfury was presumably the father of John of Nantwich and was descended of Hugh, the brother of Sir Andrew whose descendents went to Ireland and from whom the Wisconsin Breretons come. The fact that several estates are mentioned in the will indicates that probably John of Nantwich, though a mercer, did not belong to the middle-class originally, but was a younger son of the aristocracy. Also, the coincidence of the estate in Wybunbury seems to bear out the relationship between John of Nantwich, mercer, and Reverend John of Wybunbury. Les Chantry's theory of Brereton and Stockton connection Two families: St Oswalds (Malpas) and St. Olave (Chester) Newchapel, Staffordshire Another William Brereton, son or Randle Brereton (and Sarah) There is also a William and Margaret Brereton family of Newchapel who had a large family (from 1740-1751) John Brereton Married Ann Huxley at Bunbury in 1763. 1658 Elizabeth Brereton 1668 Anna Brereton 10 April 1695 Anna Brereton married Ritardus Brotrhley (i.e Richard Cretchley).  Also indexed for 2 April, but actually the Latin date looks more like "decimo septimo Aprilis" (i.e 17th April)

1666 - 1667 Thomas Brereton 1 1 ~1640 Margaret Kendricke 1633 Thomas Brereton Baptism record shows Thomas was the son of John Brewerton & Elizabeth the daughter of Peggy Bettiley, so probably a bastard child (see image).  Elizabeth Bettiley died in October 1637. 1711 - >1766 Maria (Mary) Blackmore 54 54 1744 - 1745 Thomas Brereton 11m 11m 1746 - 1820 Thomas Brereton 74 74 29 Jul 1769, Thomas Brereton of Acton married Hannah Vicars of Wrenbury 1749 Randle Brereton There are two Randle Breretons:  The first baptised 15 Sep 1748 at Newchapel, Staffordshire, son of John and Martha

They soon had a son Thomas, but Thomas was not baptised before he died in April 1814, aged 2.  He was buried at Nantwich.

Niether did he marry Sarah Ferns at Acton.  That was George the Blacksmith from Audlem. 1774 - >1851 Ralph Nield 77 77 ~1710 Maria (Mary) Beech ~1674 Thomas Garrett 1639 - 1641 Dorothy Brereton 2 2 Dorothy married Matthew Wright in 1646 1641 - 1641 Elizabeth Brereton Assumed to have died an infant, as next daughter, in 1645, is another Elizabeth 1643 - 1731 Rev John Brereton 88 88 1647 William Brereton 1645 Elizabeth Brereton Elizabeth may have married Richard Barker in 1664. ~1633 Anne Bettiley ~1645 Richard Barker 1615 - 1668 Dorothy Browne 53 53 Sarah Cotterell Elizabeth Brownebyll 1767 Elizabeth Brereton 1701 Ralph Brereton 1648 Margaret Brereton 1623 - 1656 John Brereton 33 33 John of Malpas, refered to in the book "The Brereton Families of Bedford & Helmingham".

He was described as a "Mercer",  a dealer in cloth and textile fabrics, especially silks, velvets, and other fine materials.

The family appear to have moved (probably after John died) to Prestbury where wife Dorothy was buried in 1668 (an uncommon name for burials). Sons John and William also married at Prestbury (in 1682 and 1700).
1621 Johannes (John) Kendricke As well as Elizabeth and Margaret, Richard probably also has a son John. This John had a son Richard, baptised 10-Nov-1656, buried 26-Nob-1658 at Nantwich (by Acton). 1623 Maria Kendricke ~1570 - 1625 Hugh Gardener 55 55 ~1572 Jane Whitlowe Jane Whitocke or Whitlowe (see image) 1602 Elizabeth Gardener 1605 Jane Gardener 1612 - 1630 John Gardener 18 18 ~1600 John Richardson 1583 Thomas Stockton ~1590 Thomasinam Brereton Marriage indexed as "Thomasinam Bridlon" 1635 Richard Stockton The Richard Stockton born 1635, Cheshire is possibly Richard Stockton the immigrant, one of the founding fathers of NJ, USA.

An IGI record shows burial 24-May-1677, and names both parents.  Their first two children were named after Elizabeth's parents and the next boy and girl after Richard's.

The English Civil War (1642-51) may have displaced Richard, or he may have been rewarded with (or lost) land and property by Lord Brereton for his actions.

In 1657, Richard Brereton "Late of Hurleston" married Elizabeth Kendrick of Swandley (Probably Swanley, Acton), in 1657.  His childen were all baptised at Acton near Nantwich.  Hutleston is the parish to the NW of Acton and Swanley (Bridge and House) are immediately West of Acton.
1704 - 1779 John Brereton 75 75 Son of Ralph of Nantwich.  Probably not John, born in Sandbach, son of Randall.

In 1841, William and Mary (35 & 25) were at North Pirehill, Wolstanton, Staffordshire.

William father of Randle Brereton and Mary of Astbury born 1830 is possibly an index error as Randle son of James and Mary died 1831 aged 1. However, there was another Randle born 1839.

In 1861, William (65) was with his daughters Emma (24), Annie (12) and Francis (3)
