Sam's father was Jonathan (John) Brereton and his mother was Ellinor Shone.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Brereton and Elizabeth Kendricke. He had a brother named Thomas.  He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-brother named Sandford.  He died on July 10th, 1702 in Wybunbury.¹
