Margaret was born in 1754 in Malpas and her baptism took place there on November 1st, 1754.¹

Margaret's father was Thomas Brereton and her mother was Margaret Roberts. Her paternal grandparents were Sandford Brereton and Lydia Turner. She had two sisters named Sarah and Anne. She was the youngest of the three children.
