Thomas was born in January 1850 in Bolton and his baptism took place on October 10th, 1852 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Ellen Warburton.  His paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Ellen Rigby. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named James, William, (John), George, Walter, Ellen, Mary, Alice, Jane, Sarah, Mary and Agnes.  He was the sixth youngest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 5 in March 1855 in Bolton.  He was buried on April 1st, 1855 at Bolton Holy Trinity.3 4
