Mary was born in July 1846 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place on February 26th, 1847 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Mary's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Ellen Warburton.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Ellen Rigby. She had six brothers and six sisters, named James, Thomas, William, (John), George, Walter, Ellen, Mary, Alice, Jane, Sarah and Agnes.  She was the sixth oldest of the thirteen children.  She died at 8 months old in March 1847 in Bolton.  She was buried on March 5th, 1847 at Bolton Holy Trinity.3
