Agnes was born in December 1853 in Bolton and her baptism took place there on April 30th, 1854.1 2  Agnes' father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Ellen Warburton.  Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Ellen Rigby. She had six brothers and six sisters, named James, Thomas, William, (John), George, Walter, Ellen, Mary, Alice, Jane, Sarah and Mary.  She was the fourth youngest of the thirteen children.  She died at the age of 3 in March 1857 in Bolton.1
