Mary was born on December 17th, 1820 in Walmersley and her christening took place on February 25th, 1821 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury) conducted by Geoffrey Hornby.1  Mary's father was Samuel Mather and her mother was Alice Greenhalgh.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Judith (Judy) Chadwick. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Robert, Samuel, Richard, James, Esther and Alice. She had an adopted sister named Sarah.  She died at the age of 79 in March 1900 in Bury.2

‌Mary and William were married in a religious ceremony on August 30th, 1841 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Prestwich) witnessed by Joseph Robinson & James Sheldrick.4  They had three sons and three daughters, named John, Samuel, James, Esther, Mary and Ann.  There are possibly more children.
