Samuel was born on September 23rd, 1825 in Bury and his christening took place on January 1st, 1826 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury).1  Samuel's father was Samuel Mather and his mother was Alice Greenhalgh.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Judith (Judy) Chadwick. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Robert, Richard, James, Mary, Esther and Alice. He had an adopted sister named Sarah.  He died at 9 months old in June 1826 in Bury.  He was buried on June 16th, 1826 in Bury.2 1
