Levi was born in July 1835 in Little Hulton.¹

Levi's father was Henry Mather and his mother was Sarah (Sally) Swindels. His paternal grandparents were James Topping and Alice Mather. He had six brothers and four sisters, named William, James, Joseph, Andrew, John, Peter, Molly, Mally, Alice and Mary. He had two adopted brothers named Henry and James. He died at the age of 62 on August 4th, 1897 in Pendleton. His burial was in 1897 at St. Paul (Little Hulton).²²
