Mally was born in 1833 in Pendleton.1  Mally's father was Henry Mather and her mother was Sarah (Sally) Swindels.  Her paternal grandparents were James Topping and Alice Mather. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, James, Levi, Joseph, Andrew, John, Peter, Molly, Alice and Mary. She had two adopted brothers named Henry and James.
