Albert's father was Robert Leatherbarrow and his mother was Ellen Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ellen Warburton. He had ten brothers and six sisters, named James, John, Walter, William, Robert, Thomas, Robert, George, George, Walter, Alice, Sarah, Alice, Sarah, Mary and Ada.  He was the seventh youngest of the seventeen children.  He died as an infant in 1872 in Little Bolton.¹
