Ada was born in September 1876 in Little Bolton.¹

Ada's father was Robert Leatherbarrow and her mother was Ellen Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Ellen Warburton. She had eleven brothers and five sisters, named James, John, Walter, William, Robert, Thomas, Albert, Robert, George, George, Walter, Alice, Sarah, Alice, Sarah and Mary.  She was the fourth youngest of the seventeen children.  She died as an infant at the age of 1 in 1877 in Bolton.¹
