George was born on January 29th, 1828 in Harthill and his christening took place on May 4th, 1828 at All Saints, Harthill.1 2  George's father was Thomas Brereton and his mother was Martha Hughes.  His paternal grandparents were William Brereton Jnr and Mary Tomlinson; his maternal grandparents were William Hughes and Mary Bennion. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John, William, Thomas, Edward, Samuel, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Anne and Jane.  He was the second oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 52 on November 6th, 1880 in Victoria (Au).  He was buried in November 1880 in Victoria (Au).3

‌George and Sarah were married in a religious ceremony on October 7th, 1857 at All Saints, Harthill.4  They had five sons and two daughters, named William, Charles, Harry, George, John, Jane and Mary.  There are no more children.
