Martha was born in 1806 in Hargrave and her baptism took place there on February 16th, 1806.1 2  Martha's father was William Hughes and her mother was Mary Bennion. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Samuel, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary and Hannah.  She was the second youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 73 in September 1879 in Chester.  She was buried in September 1879 at Brown Knowl (Methodist).3 4

‌Martha and Thomas were married in a religious ceremony on January 22nd, 1827 at St. Oswalds (Chester) by Curate Edward Brick and witnessed by Samuel Hughes & Edward Edwards.7  They had six sons and five daughters, named John, George, William, Thomas, Edward, Samuel, Mary, Elizabeth, Sarah, Anne and Jane.  There are no more children.
