Andrew's father was Archibald Thomson and his mother was Margaret Paterson. His paternal grandparents were Andrew Thomson and Helen Cunningham; his maternal grandparents were Theophilus (John) John Paterson and Helen Cunningham. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Alexander, Helen, Alison, Isabella and Agnes. He was the second oldest of the seven children. He died from cancer, Carcinoma of Prostrate Bladder, at the age of 71 on January 4th, 1914 in Broxburn. The funeral took place on January 7th, 1914 in Broxburn. He was buried on January 7th, 1914 in Broxburn.³⁴⁵
