  • Can find no record of a James Thomson, son of James Thomson and Margaret Aitken, being born around 1720s in Uphall.
    
    However, it seems likely that a son would be named after the father, and James Thomson and Margaret Aitken are buried in same grave as an Archibald Thomson who died in 1825.
    
    Witness John Thomson at Archibald's christening could be Archibald's uncle.

James' father was James Thomson and his mother was Margaret Aitken. He had six brothers and a sister, named William, Peter, Henry, John, David, Charles and Margaret.
