Edward was born in Essendine, Rurland. Edward's father was Edward le Despencer and his mother was Anne de Ferrers. His paternal grandparents were Hugh the Younger le Despencer and Eleanor (Alinore) de Clare; his maternal grandparents were William de Ferrers and Margaret (Ellen) de Segrave. He had two brothers named Gilbert le Despencer of Melton and Hugh. He died on November 11th, 1375 in Llanblethian, Glamorgan, Wales. He was buried in Tewkesbury Abbey, Gloucester, England.-
