Philip was born about 1340 in Exeter, Devonshire, England.  Philip's father was Hugh III de Courtenay and his mother was Margaret de Bohun.  His paternal grandparents were Hugh II de Courtenay and Agnes de St. John; his maternal grandparents were Humphrey VIII de Bohun and Elizabeth Plantagenet. He had eight brothers and ten sisters, named Thomas, William, Peter, Humphrey, Hugh IV, John, Robert, Edward, Margaret, Elizabeth, Katherine, Joan, Matilda, Eleanor, Guenora, Anne, Isabel and Philippa.  He died on July 29th, 1406 in Exeter, Devonshire, England.

‌Philip and Anne Margaret were married in a religious ceremony before June 14th, 1354.  They had a son named John.
