John de was born after 1225 in Basing, Hampshire, England.  John de's father was Robert de St. John and his mother is Agnes de Cantelou.  His paternal grandfather was William de Port St. John and his paternal grandmother is Godechild Paynell; his maternal grandparents were William II de Cantelou and Milicent de Gournay. He had a brother named William.  He was the older of the two children.  He died on September 29th, 1302 in Basing, Hampshire, England.

‌John de and Alice were married in a religious ceremony before June 29th, 1256.  They had three sons and a daughter, named John II de, Edward, William III de and Agnes de.
