Also, both John's Maltsters, and married at Wrexham and Brymbo.   Relative of: John (and wife Mary) married & Thomas (and wife Charlotte) all buried at Brymbo 1797 - 1852 John Eddowes 55 55 John and Mary are my 3x great grandparents.  John is from the Beast Market, Wrexham.  Johs may have somtimes gone by the name Joseph (e.g. on daughter Elizabeth's marriage).

There is another John Eddowes from Wrexham b.1814, also a Maltster, also married to Mary (see 1851 Manchester census).

9 May 1852, John died aged 55.  The closest birth match is another John from Worthen, Shropshire, son of John and Elizabeth.  He was born about a year after John and Elizabeth Ford married at Worthern in 1797.  There are no more baptisms there, so the family may have moved on (i.e. to Wrexham).  However, that family moved to Westbury and had Thomas (1799), Edward (1801), William (1803), Sanuel (1805), George (1807), Ann (1810).  This in not our John!

An older John Eddowes had the Tannery in the Beast Market by the Old National School.  It was formerly held by William Poynton, tanner, and after by Mr Walter Jones. Died Nov 19 1799, and was buried at Marchwiel (from Wrexham Parish History).

In 1827, when Elizabeth was baptised, the family were at Bank Street, Wrexham.  They were also at Bank Street when Mary Ann was baptised, this time John shown as a Carrier. Must be the same John, as same address (and it appears Elizabeth got baptised again).

In 1835, when Esther was baptised, John was a farmer at Common Wood (Gresford).

In 1847, they may still havre been at Holt when Johns daughter Elizabeth had her first child.

In 1851 John (55, a Coal Jagger, born Wrexham) was with his Mary (47, born Gresford), at the Beast Market, Wrexham. They were with children Edmund (17), Esther (15), John and Thomas (both 12), Lydia (10), William (8) and Mathew (4).  Elizabeth and George had already left home and married. In 1851, Another John and Mary Eddowes family were at Manchester, also a Maltster (they married at Wrexham in 1841).

Mary (John's wife) was recorded as a Farmers Widow in 1861, so John must have been a farmer earlier in his life.

Mrs Eddowes and Mr William Owen Eddowes (1786-1850) held land and a tannery adjacent to the Beast Market (before 1896, sold in 1824), so may be a parents or close relatives, anthough now thought not.

In 1836 Esther, daughter of John and Mary, Farmer at Common Wood, was baptised.  Common Wood in by Gresford and Holt, so it seems very likely Thomas of Pike Green, Gresford in 1851 is John's brother.

According to the births of the children, the family moved from Holt to Wrexham about 1839-40.  Unfortunately, there are no Census records for Wrexham 1841 that have survived.

John's death was recorded at the Beast Market, Wrexham in 1852.  His wife Mary then moved to her daughter's Esther in Birkenhead where she died in 1868

Thomas and Ralph Eddowes (1782-1870) are unconfirmed brothers.  Both are from Wrexham and their families moved to Barton-upon-Irwell.

Thomas was a Maltster in 1841 for John's marriage.  It was Thomas Hall who was the Maltster at Beast Market in 1796.

Thomas probably had a brother Robert Eddows, and both had daughters Charlotte. 1778 - 1849 Charlotte Morris 71 71 1814 - 1871 John Eddowes 57 57 WARNING: This is another John and Mary Eddowes family, from Wrexham, also a Maltster when married at Brymbo, but about 10y younger:  And another John Eddowes of the same age, born Wrexham, a Wheelwright in 1851 at Worsley, Lancashire.

In 1841, John and his father Thomas were Maltsters and on his marriage record and also a Maltster on the 1851 census (at Manchester).

In 1861, John and Mary were at 23 Chorlton Street, London Road, Manchester. He was now an Agricultural labourer.

John died in 1871.  The death was registered at Chorlton which is where wife Mary was on the 1871 census.
 1820 - 1889 Mary Thomas 69 69 Mary was a servant from Wrexham Regis when she married John. Her father was Robert Thomas, a Joiner.

The 1851 census shows Mary is from Montgomeryshire, and daughter Emma was also born there. They didnt get married in Wrexham until after Emma was born.

In 1881, Mary was living with her unmarried son John at 8 Indigo Street, Chorlton near Manchester. 1839 Emma Thomas (Eddowes) Emma Thomas, illegitimate was born in the summer of 1839.  Her birth was registered at Wrexham

In 1851, Emma Eddowes was 12 and at School in Manchester. 1842 - 1870 Elizabeth Eddowes 28 28 In 1842, Elizabeth was born in Wrexham, and then moved to Manchester.

By 1851, Elizabeth was with her family in Manchester.  They had just moved there the previous year (after Mary born).

In 1861, Elizabeth was a house servent (19), in Salford, aged 19, for John G and Mary Susannah Hales and family, a furniture broker (a Pawnbroker) from Gravesend, Kent.  These could be related to the Hale family from Kent.

Elizabeth died in 1870 1843 Charlotte Eddowes Charlotte (18) married Robert Bingley (19, a Smith) at St, John's Manchester 10-Dec-1860.  Her name was recorded as Edwards, not Eddowes.

Charlotte Bingley, 38 was married in 1871, a charwoman and living with her parents. There is no marriage record (except one for Charlotte Eliza Eddowes in Lamberth, London in 1865), so she probably had a son but never married!
 1848 Mary Eddowes In 1861 Mary, aged 12, was a Nurse and the oldest child still at home. 1851 Thomas Eddowes Thomas (20) was with his mother 1856 John Eddowes John was 5 on the 1861 census

In 1881, John, aged 25 was still unmarried, living with his mother Mary Eddowes (63) at 8 Indigo Street, Chorlton, Manchester. 

In 1882, John married Jane Ramage from Glossop at Salford St Clements (C47/1/174). Another John (Thomas) Eddowes, son of John the Wheelwright, married Eliza Muster in Swinton St Peter, Salford the same year.

In 1991, Jane died at Chorlton in Q2/1891 1802 - >1851 Thomas Eddowes 49 49 Thomas was born 25 Feb 1802, but not baptised until 1805, the same day as his sister Hester.

1822, Thomas Eddowes married Martha Jones at Gresford.  They had their family at Gresford before Martha died in 1843, aged 43.

29 Dec 1843, Thomas "Eadows" (widowed), a farmer of Cuppin Street, son of John married Elizabeth Weaver (widowed), daughter of Richard Jones at St. Mary on the Hill, Chester, Cheshire.

In 1851, Thomas Eddowes and Elizabeth (50 & 65) were at Pike Green, Gresford farming 23 acres. They had Elizabeth (15), and sons Charles (12) and Henry (10). Presumably these three children are not Elizabeth's and she is too old.  Also 10 lodgers including Edward Thomas (50, Wid, Wheelwright) and his two daughters.

John is a likely younger brother of Thomas and Hester, also children of (another) John and Elizabeth (a theory based mainly on John and Mary having a daughters Elizabeth and Esther and son John).

The family moved to Tranmere, Birkenhead probably after Thomas died, although there is (another) older Thomas Stanton Eddowes from Wrexham there in 1861, 1871 and 1881. That Thomas (an anchor and chain maker) was in Little Meolse in 1851. ~1843 Robert Bingley Robert was 19 when he married Charlotte "Edwards" (but should be Eddowes) in 1860.  Her father John was a Maltster (which confirms the marriage is the correct one). 1863 - <1911 John E Bingley 48 48 Aged 8 in 1871, living with mother Charlotte and Grandmother Mary Eddowes at Chorlton on Medlock, Manchester.

In 1879, married Sarah MacDonald at Salford.  In 1911, Sarah  had been married 32 years, grocer and sweets (shop), now widowed and had one child that died.  Sarah died in Salford 1940, aged 84. 1858 Louisa Palmer Louisa was the daughter of William Palmer, an Engineer 1881 William Eddowes 1882 Phoebe Eddowes 1887 Edwin Eddowes 1855 - 1891 Jane Rammage 36 36 Jane was the daughter of James and Hannah Rammage from Glossop, Derbyshire.  She was aged 6 in 1861 1803 - 1883 Thomas Stanton Eddowes 79 79 Thomas Stanton Eddowes was possibly the son of John Eddowes and Mary Holt from Holt, Wrexham. There was also a wealthy John and Elizabeth Eddowes family from Wrexham who both left Wills.

In 1835, Thomas S Eddowes was an Ironmonger at Bath Street, Liverpool.

In 1851, Thomas S Eddowes (47) was an Anchor and Chain Maker living in Little Meols.

In 1860, 1864 and 1869, Thomas's three sons, all merchants, married at Bidston, Wirral.

Mary Ann Eddowes died in 1863 and Thomas Stanton Eddowes died in 1883.  They are buried at St. James's,  Cemetery, Liverpool, together with Frances Mary and several of their infant and children. 1810 - 1863 Mary Ann Horseman 53 53 Mary Ann Eddowes died in October 1863 and her death was registered at Ormskirk, Lancashire.

Mary Ann and Thomas Stanton Eddowes (who died in 1883)  are buried at St. James's,  Cemetery, Liverpool, together with Frances Mary and several of their infant and children. 1841 - 1876 Henry Eddowes 35 35 This is a wealthy Eddowes family of merchants originally from  Wrexham, and now Birkenhead and Liverpool.  There is also another Henry born in Gresford, Wrexham in 1841

25 Feb 1869, Henry married Josephine Starbuck Holt Lyne, the daughter of Joseph Lyne, a Ship Owner and Ship Broker. 1845 - 1922 Amelia Jane Eddowes 77 77 A. J. Eddowes was 5 in 1851.

In 1871, Amelia (25) was a visitor (but not a lodger) at a lodging house run by Elizabeth Williams (unm, 70), possibly an old Aunt. 1835 - 1905 John Eddowes 70 70

John Died in 1906, leaving his effects to Joseph William Hort Lynn. 1850 - 1852 Arthur Randolph Eddowes 1 1 A R Eddowes was 6 months on the 1851 census. 1836 - 1899 Stanton Eddowes 63 63 In 1864, Stanton married Annabella Hort Lyne at Birkenhead.

In 1881, just before his father died, Stanton and his wife Annie H were boarding at Penzance, Cornwall (on holiday maybe).  Stanton was an Executor of his fathers Will in 1883.

On 15 May 1900, Nancy, the only daughter of Mrs Stanton Eddowes of the Hollies, Birkenhead Park married Guy Eugene DeMaupas at the Memorial Church, Liscard.  The marriage was informed in the Belfast Newsletter, so there must by a NI family connection. 1838 - 1839 Richard Alexander Eddowes 1 1 1815 - 1881 Thomas Eddowes 66 66 Thomas may be the son of Ralph Edowes and Jane Davies

In 1851, Thomas and Ann (45 & 35) lived in Rhosnesney, Acton, Wrexham with his widowed father Ralph, 69.  Also with John (15), Emma (13), Abigail (10), Thomas (8), William (6) and Edmind (1).  Then Worsley (coal mines), Lancashire

In 1861, Thomas and Ann (45 & 35) were at Abenbury Fechan. Flintshire with John (15), Emma (13), Abigail (10), Thomas (8), William (6) and Edward (1).

Between 1871 and 1881, the family moved to do coal mining at Worsley, Little Hulton, Lancs. 1825 - 1888 Ann Jones 63 63 Ann Cross or Ann Jones (a FamilySearch member has Ann Jones). 1845 John Eddowes 1848 Emma Eddowes On 17 July 1871, Emma Eddowes (21) married William Ralph (21), a Barman at Chester St John (CEJB).  Her father was Thomas Eddowes a gardener and witnesses were Ralph and Ann Eddowes.  They were living at Charlotte Street, Chester.  Most likely another Emma!

WARNING Thomas Eddowes (22) a labourer son of Thomas a gardener married Mary Roberts (23) 29 Dec 1863.  This cant be her brother, so I may have the wrong Emma? 1850 - 1915 Abigail Eddowes 64 64 Abigail was named after her grandmother.

In 1881, John and Abigail (31 & 30) had William (12) Joseph (9), Herbert (3) and Thomas. They were living at 8 Alfred St Wardley Lane, Worsley 1852 Thomas Eddowes 1855 William Eddowes 1860 Edmund Eddowes 1862 Elizabeth Eddowes 1867 Amy (Emy) Eddowes Amy oe Emy Eddowes 1833 - 1861 Frances Mary Eddowes 28 28 27 Oct 1860, Frances Mary Eddowes, daughter of Thomas Stanton Eddowes married (marriage notice) Philip Woods, son of Philip Finch Curry 1799 - 1866 Ralph Eddowes 67 67 Ralph is a possible non-baptised son of John and Elizabeth. There is no baptism or DNA match to confirm.

1 Jul 1828 Ralph Eddowes, bachelor married Margaret Jones, a spinster, both of the parish of Wrexham, and both marked with "X".

In 1851 Ralph and Margaret (58 & 51) at Rhosnesney, Acton, Ruabon, Denbighshire with Emma (21) and Henry (19)

In 1861 Ralph and Margaret (61 & 68) were farming 10 acres at Rhosnesney, Acton, Ruabon, Denbighshire with daughter Emma (29) and son Henry (21).

NOTE: In 1861, Another Ralph, aged 79 was at Abenbury Road, Abenbury Fechan, Wrexham, Denbighshire.  This Ralph died in 1870, aged 90. 1818 - 1878 Jane Davies 60 60 In 1851, Ralph and Elizabeth (33 & 34) are at Abenbury Fechan with 6 children.

In 1853, daughter Jane was born, just after Ralph had died.

In 1873, James's first wife Martha died at Chorlton, aged 47.

John is the assumed oldest son of Abigail and Ralph.  His first children were named after his mother and father (Abigail and Ralph), but both died as infants.

Henry died at Rhosnesni (Rhosnesni), Wrexham in 1880 and is buried at Brymbo, Wrexham. 1799 - 1866 Ralph Eddowes 67 67 Ralph is a possible non-baptised son of John and Elizabeth. There is no baptism or DNA match to confirm.

1 Jul 1828 Ralph Eddowes, bachelor married Margaret Jones, a spinster, both of the parish of Wrexham, and both marked with "X".

In 1851 Ralph and Margaret (58 & 51) at Rhosnesney, Acton, Ruabon, Denbighshire with Emma (21) and Henry (19)

In 1861 Ralph and Margaret (61 & 68) were farming 10 acres at Rhosnesney, Acton, Ruabon, Denbighshire with daughter Emma (29) and son Henry (21).

NOTE: In 1861, Another Ralph, aged 79 was at Abenbury Road, Abenbury Fechan, Wrexham, Denbighshire.  This Ralph died in 1870, aged 90. 1819 - 1891 Ralph Beddows 72 72 Ralph Beddowe or Beddows, son of William, (both labourers in 1846) should not be confused with Ralph Eddowes.

11,18,25 Jan 1846 Ralph Beddow marriage banns were read for marrying Eliza Davies (from Worthenbury, Flintshire). They married 2 Feb 1846.

In 1851, Ralph and Eliza (29 & 27) were at Eyton Crabtree Green with Emily (5), Elizabeth (2) and Harriet (0)

In 1861, Ralph and Eliza (40 & 36) were at Willow Road, Wrexham with Emily (14), Elizabeth (12), John (7), Eliza (5) and Eilliam (1).

In 1891, Ralph died aged 69 (but actually 72) Charles Lloyd Charles was the son of Hugh Lloys.  Both men were colliers. ~1844 Daniel Jarvis 1863 - 1871 Elizabeth Eddowes 7 7 In 1871, Elizabetrh (7) was with her parents in West Derby.

In 1881, Elizabeth was not with parents. She died in 1871. 1838 Charles Eddowes In 1851, Charles (12) was with his parents at Pika Green Farm, Gresford.

12 Oct 1822 Mary Eddowes married John Randles, labourer with Elizabeth Eddowes (i.e. oldest sister) as witness. There were two John and Mary marriages in 1822, the other being between Mary Bennett and John Randles a boot and shoe maker.
 1788 David Eddowes There was a David Eddowes buried at Marchwiel in 1755, possibly David's uncle. 1780 Robert Eddowes 1777 Elizabeth Eddowes Elizabeth probably never married.  She appers to be single in 1822 when a witness to Mary's marriage 1774 Edward Eddowes 1842 William Danvers John Randles 12 Oct 1822, John Randles, a labourer, married Mary Eddowes.  Elizabeth Eddowes (her sister) was a witness.

This is NOT the John Randles of Chester Street, a Boot and Shoe maker who married Mary Bennett the same year.

In 1824, John, a labourer, and Mary were living at Mount Street, Wrexham 1824 Mary Ann Randles No DNA matches to Randles from Wrexham.

In 1851, Mary Ann Randles (26), born Wrexham, was a servant and house maid in Everton, West Derby, Liverpool for James and Agnes Roper. 1828 John Randles John was the son of John and Mary Randles, the shoemaker of Wrexham.

In 1851, John Randles (23, born Wrexham) was as shop assistant in Mount Pleasant, Liverpool. 1813 Joseph Hallowell 1811 Alice Edowes In 1851, Alice Hallowell, daughter of John was married and living in Liverpool.  Births register the MMN = EDOWES (i.e. not Eddowes), so is probably unrelated to our family tree. 1845 Joseph Hallowell In 1861, Joseph was a Porter in Stockport.

4 Feb 1866, William Hallowell married Elizabeth Higham at Stockport.
