Ethel was born in December 1915 in Wrexham.1  Ethel's father was James Patrick MacDonald and her mother was Elizabeth Ann Barker.  Her maternal grandparents were Aldred Barker and Rose (Rosanna) Anna Evans. She had a brother and a sister, named Banjamin and Lizzie.  She was the youngest of the three children. She had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named John, George, Henry, Irene, Amelia, Sarah and Rose.  She died at the age of 50 in March 1966 in Wrexham.2

‌Ethel and Denis were married in a religious ceremony in March 1936 in Wrexham.3
