Hilda's father was Arthur Edward Scoffield and her mother was Mary Brockbank. Her maternal grandparents were John Brockbank and Mary Ann Mather. She had six brothers and four sisters, named John, Arthur, Joseph, Walter, Harold, George, Mary, Elizabeth, Lilian and Mercy. She was the eighth oldest of the eleven children. She died at the age of 94 in October 1996 in Wallasey.²
