Arthur's father was Arthur Edward Scoffield and his mother was Mary Brockbank. His maternal grandparents were John Brockbank and Mary Ann Mather. He had five brothers and five sisters, named John, Joseph, Walter, Harold, George, Mary, Elizabeth, Hilda, Lilian and Mercy. He was the third oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 93 in May 1989 in Wallasey.²
