William Mather

William was born in 1776 in Billinge and his baptism took place on February 18th, 1776 at St. Aidan (Billinge).¹²

William's father was James Mather and his mother was Ann Berrington. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Hannah Rawlinson. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Joshua, James, John, Peter, Ann, Tabitha and Sarah. He was the seventh oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 72 in March 1848 in Billinge. His burial was on March 19th, 1848 in Billinge.²³

  Soon after they married in 1841, Ann Mather (35) was with William Mather (65) at School Brow, Billinge (part of Wigan). William appears to have had a son William (15) from an earlier marriage.
  
  William may have had a brother Peter (60) who was a neighbour also at School Brow in 1841. There were also several other Mathers households here including Tabatha (7), and another Ann Mather (70) with a daughter Ann (35), so quiite a Mather commune.
