The James Mather that died, aged 83, and buried at Turton 18 Mar 1853, is most lilkley the James married to Mary Barber, as he was still alive at Edgworth in 1851, aged 80.
These records must surely be mixed up: The James that died in Billinge, Wigan was 83, not 49. However, GRO confirms these data. James must have died in Bolton, which would explain him missing in 1851.

General Notes
In 1841, James (70) was at Birchley Gate, Upholland with 6 children: William (40), Thomas (30), Joshua (20), Richard (15), Ellen (25) and Margaret (25)
In 1854, James died. In hie Will (proved 24 Jan 1855) he leaves his estate to sons William, James, Thomas and Joshua and daughters Ann, Catherine, Mary and Ellen and their families.
James and Mary were married in a religious ceremony on November 3rd, 1799 at All Saints (Wigan). They had four sons and five daughters, named William, James, Thomas, Joshua, Ann, Catherine, Mary, Ellen and Margaret.
