Benjamin's father was William Mather and his mother was Betty Cowley.  His paternal grandparents were James Mather and Ann Berrington. He had a brother named William.  He was the younger of the two known children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named William, Tabitha, Margaret and Sarah.  He died at the age of 2 in August 1810 in Wigan.  He was buried on August 27th, 1810 in Wigan.¹
