Margaret was born on February 21st, 1844 in Billinge and her baptism took place on March 4th, 1844 at St. Aidan (Billinge).1 2  Margaret's father was William Mather and her mother was Ann Mather.  Her paternal grandparents were James Mather and Ann Berrington; her maternal grandparents were Joshua Mather and Margaret (Peggy) Mather. She had a brother and a sister, named William and Sarah. She had an adopted sister named Tabitha. She had two half-brothers named William and Benjamin.

‌Margaret and John were married in a religious ceremony on January 14th, 1862 in Wigan.3  They had a daughter named Ann.

‌Margaret and William were married in a religious ceremony on June 7th, 1874 at St. John (Liverpool).5   They had two sons and a daughter, named Richard, Thomas and Sarah.  There are no more children.
