Thomas was born in April 1808 in Little Hulton and his baptism took place on May 1st, 1808 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).^1 2

Thomas' father was Ellis Mather and his mother was Ann Thornley.  His paternal grandparents were Edmund (Edwin) Mather and Mary <unknown>. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named James, William, John, Ellis, Peter, Charles, David, Moses, Betty, Alice and Betty.  He was the sixth youngest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 68 in March 1877 in Clayton-le-Moors.  He was buried on March 14th, 1877 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).^3 3

‌Thomas and Alice were married in a religious ceremony on October 1st, 1826 at St. Mary (Deane).⁵   They had three sons and two daughters, named William, John, Ellis, Ann and Betty.  There are no more children.
