James Thornley (Mather)

James was born in 1792 in Worsley and his baptism took place there on May 13th, 1792.¹

James' father was Ellis Mather and his mother was Ann Thornley. His paternal grandparents were Edmund (Edwin) Mather and Mary <unknown>. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Ellis, Thomas, Peter, Charles, David, Moses, Betty, Alice and Betty. He was the oldest of the twelve children.

- The illegitimate child of Ellis Mather and Ann Thornley (before they married).
  
  In 1841, James and Margaret (both 45) had John (25), Thomas (20), Ellis (15), Harriet (10) and Caroline (5) at Mather Fold, Little Hulton.
