Peter was born in 1813 in Worsley and his baptism took place on April 18th, 1813 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).1 2  Peter's father was Ellis Mather and his mother was Ann Thornley.  His paternal grandparents were Edmund (Edwin) Mather and Mary <unknown>. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named James, William, John, Ellis, Thomas, Charles, David, Moses, Betty, Alice and Betty.  He was the fourth youngest of the twelve children.

‌Peter and Sally were married in a religious ceremony on January 23rd, 1837 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles) witnessed by Thomas Gorse & Charles Mather.3   They had a daughter named Ann.  There are no more children.
