Peter was born in 1812 in Worsley and his baptism took place on April 18th, 1813 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).1 2  Peter's father was Ellis Mather and his mother was Ann Thornley.  His paternal grandparents were Edmund (Edwin) Mather and Mary <unknown>. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named James, William, John, Ellis, Thomas, Charles, David, Moses, Betty, Alice and Betty.  He was the fourth youngest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 40 in May 1852 in Worsley.  He was buried on May 11th, 1852 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Eccles).3
