In 1851, John (18) was a Coal miner with his father Thomas, a shoemaker at Ellenbrook, Little Hulton.
9 July 1859, John Mather (25), son of Thomas Mather married Alice Whittle (23), dau of James Whittle at Tyldesley, Lancashire.
In 1861, John and Alice (27 & 25) were at 26 Rock Street, South Bury with their daughter Elizabeth Ann (1). Sarah was with her grandparents back at Little Hulton.
Later in 1861 Betsy was born and her birth registered in Atherton. The family then relocated to Boothstown, Worsley where Betsy died, aged 3 months. Elizabeth also died there, aged 2.
In 1871, John and Martha (37 & 36) were living at 62 Boothstown Lane with Sarah (13), Thomas (9), James (6) and Edith (2)

Occupation Details
From 1851 John's occupation was Coal Miner in Little Hulton.1
John and Alice were married in a religious ceremony on July 9th, 1859 in Tyldesley by minister Samuel Johnson MA and witnessed by William Higson & Dennis Grundy.4
