John Mather

John was born in 1833 in Little Hulton.¹

John's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Alice Bradshaw. His paternal grandparents were Ellis Mather and Ann Thornley. He had two brothers and two sisters, named William, Ellis, Ann and Betty. He was the third oldest of the five children.

General Notes
- In 1851, John (18) was a Coal miner with his father Thomas, a shoemaker at Ellenbrook, Little Hulton.
  
  9 July 1859, John Mather (25), son of Thomas Mather married Alice Whittle (23), dau of James Whittle at Tyldesley, Lancashire.
  
  In 1861, John and Alice (27 & 25) were at 26 Rock Street, South Bury with their daughter Elizabeth Ann (1). Sarah was with her grandparents back at Little Hulton.
  
  Later in 1861 Betsy was born and her birth registered in Atherton. The family then relocated to Boothstown, Worsley where Betsy died, aged 3 months. Elizabeth also died there, aged 2.
  
  In 1871, John and Martha (37 & 36) were living at 62 Boothstown Lane with Sarah (13), Thomas (9), James (6) and Edith (2)
