John Mather

John was born in 1765 in Billinge and his baptism took place on January 9th, 1765 at St. Aidan (Billinge).¹

John's father was John Mather and his mother was Elin (Ellen) Shaw. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Hannah Rawlinson. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Peter, Richard, Alice, Elizabeth and Peggy. He was the fifth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 77 in May 1842 in Winwick. His burial was on May 8th, 1842 in Winwick.¹

General Notes
- There are two John and Betty families, clearly demonstrated by the births of both Richard and John in 1800, only two months apart. There are marriages in 1790 and 1796. It was the other John (his cousin) who married Betty Baxter (because brother Thomas was witness; Also children names after siblings).
