Hannah's father was John Mather and her mother was Betty Houghton.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Elin (Ellen) Shaw. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, John, John, Peter, James, William, Ann, Margaret, Elizabeth and Alice.  She was the fifth youngest of the eleven known children.
