John Mather

John was born in June 1842 in Tonge-with-Haulgh.¹

John's father was Jeremiah (Jeremy) Mather and his mother was Alice Lord. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Mather and Betty Lord. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, James, Jeremiah, Robert, Peter, James, Betty and Mary. He was the sixth oldest of the nine children.
