1758, Jacob born son of Jeremiah and Hannah Mather.
The 1801 Breightmet Census records a population of 734 in 137 inhabited houses, two of which were occupied by Mather families. Jacob Mather had 5 and Joseph Mather 6.
In Dec 1803, Jacob gave a £1 subscription to the Breightmet volunteer Corps.
In 1804, Jacob was a widower when he married Ellen Holmes (a widow).
Is Jacob aka James?: There is no first marriage or any baptism records for children of Jacob Mather, yet he married twice and probably had a wife and 3 children with him in 1801. Also there is only one recent burial of a possible wife before he remarried in 1804: Mary wife of "James" Mather, Weaver was buried at Radcliffe in 1801.
In 1821, Jacab died and is buried at Cockey Moor Discenting Chapel, Ainsworth (where Abraham Mather had his first son Thomas baptised in 1777).
